GSG Impact defines impact investment wholesalers as essential financial intermediaries with four core attributes:
- A wholesaler offers repayable financing to funds and other intermediaries, fueling the growth of impact-driven enterprises.
- A wholesaler attracts both catalytic and commercial investments by crafting innovative instruments designed to pull in capital from diverse investors with varying return expectations.
- Committed to measurable impact, supporting market-led solutions to social and environmental challenges while providing robust impact data at wholesale, intermediary, and enterprise levels.
- A wholesaler actively fosters the development of impact investment markets through broader capacity-building efforts, from educational and investment-readiness programs to policy advocacy, transparency initiatives, and creating new financial intermediaries.
Since 2019, the number of wholesalers has increased by 280%, now spanning 19 GSG Impact National Partner countries and regions. Eleven established impact wholesalers and fund of funds, managing over $3.1 billion (€2.8bn) and eight more in the pipeline, have been brought to market by GSG Impact and its affiliated National Partner countries and regions in Africa, Europe, Asia and Latin America.
This rapid growth highlights the essential role that wholesalers play in helping impact-driven businesses expand on a global scale.
